TERRY BIRD – FOUNDER & LEAD WORKSHOP FACILITATOR

Over the past 30 years I have been  a professional Actor & Producer working in Theatre, Film & TV.

Raised and educated in Basildon, my first introduction to the performing arts was at the age of 11 when I became a member of the Basildon Youth Theatre (BYT) which was based at the old Towngate Theatre, I was a member of BYT for over 5 years where I participated in a diverse range of productions, summer residencies and workshops. Being a member of BYT had a profound effect on me as a young person and set into the motion the career I wanted to pursue.

At the age of 19 I set up Prime Time Theatre Company, a TIE company which devised and performed topical issue based plays around youth centres and Schools in the home Counties as well as being commissioned by local Councils and education institution’s to run various workshops and residentials for young people.

In 1997 I established my own film production company Newtownfilms.co.uk. Our first two feature films were shot in Essex and employed as many local crew and creatives as possible. New Town facilitated drama and Media workshops for young people and adults as well as managing outreach projects for local arts orginaisations.

For the past 10 years I have been the Head of Global Production, Business Development and In house Producer for Black Hangar Studios, where i have been producing feature films in the US and UK, movies such as Jeepers Creepers Reborn and Grand Isle starring Nicolas Cage.

As a Professional Actor I have appeared in numerous Theatre productions, TV shows, Commercials and films. A selection of my film & TV credits can be found here.

I am passionate about using my industry experience to give real and current guidance for young people & Adults who wish to develop a career in the creative industries.

I believe in supporting Local communities to express their creativity and enable them to create a platform to present through Drama issues that affect their daily lives.

Barry Wilson Teacher of Media Seevic College

New Town delivered a live brief to a group of media students at Seevic College. The students thoroughly enjoyed the project, which was to create a film trailer for New Town. The students learnt a lot from the guys at New Town and they gave the students excellent feedback and valuable industry experience. Their professionalism and enthusiasm for the world of film came across to the students and was very inspiring for them.

Dear Terry, Thank you so much for your talk yesterday! It was great to meet you and refreshing to hear about your practical experiences. The feedback has been excellent and those that were there seemed to get a lot out of the session. It would be great to get you back to do some further sessions…
